KBO, an organization of the elderly, concludes that among elderly people, there
is great fear of becoming victims of a robbery, burglary or swindle. It turns out that 28% of the elderly are
afraid of a fire in their home, 27% are worried about robberies or
burglaries. The same percentage is
worried being cheated. Surprisingly enough, people are less worried about
falling, even though 2,500 Dutch elderly die after a fall. Arno Hetzel, spokesman of the Unie KBO, says
that the elderly in the Netherlands feel themselves to be increasingly less
