After a soccer game between FC Utrecht and FC Twente in the Dutch top soccer league, riots broke out and five policemen were wounded. The policemen felt threatened enough to fire several shots into the air. The Mayor of Utrecht, Aleid Wolfsen (Labor) said that hooligans misbehaved terribly and that their entrance should be prohibited for many games to come.
