Sixty Percent of Dutch Mayors Threatened Annually

Sixty percent of Dutch mayors are threatened annually with violence. This is quoted by the Telegraaf newspaper from a yet secret study to be published by the Dutch Ministry of Interior. The house of the mayor of Moordrecht was bombed. The grave of the recently deceased wife of the mayor of Venray was flattened and its cross thrown into the trees opposite the municipality. The house of the mayor of Nieuwegein was shot at. The mayor of Maassluis received from one perpetrator three threatening letters, as well as one with a bullet in it and another with an unidentified powder. Most mayors do not wish to talk about the threats. Minister of the Interior Guusje Ter Horst wants to start an emergency call center for threatened mayors.
