Trade Union: Poor Training Planning in Air Force

Jan Kleian, president of the military trade union ACOM, says that the poor planning and training of new personnel creates ongoing shortages in personnel in the air force. As an example he noted that training for the job of loadmaster – the person responsible for loading and unloading helicopters – takes 36 months while 12-14 is the norm. This leads to many people withdrawing their candidacy for the course.

Authorities Don’t Know Where 270,000 Cars Are

Dutch authorities do not know where 270,000 cars are. This relates to cars manufactured before 1995. This was noticed recently. These cars have not paid taxes for 13 years, and were not insured and had not been tested during that period. In addition, fines had not been paid. The authorities do not know whether the cars are still on the road, of if they have been exported or demolished.

More Minors Caught for Criminal Actions

Harm Brouwer, head of the attorney-general’s office, said that the expectation that the increase of crime among minors would level off, has not materialized. In 2007, 37,900 minors were caught for illegal activities, as against 35,600 in the previous year. Criminal activity among girls has increased more than among boys.

Complaints Regarding Fines for Speeding Block the System

So many people who have been caught speeding by camera or mobile radar submit complaints that the justice system cannot cope with the mail. Last year more than 400,000 complaints were received against fines. This has clogged the system so badly that the administration has canceled many fines, as the pile of complaints was growing daily. Doctors at Twenty Unqualified Hospitals Perform Dangerous Surgery

In 20 Dutch hospitals doctors perform surgery of the aorta and the esophagus for which the hospital is not qualified. These are the findings of a report by the Consumentenbond, a major consumer organization. There is a requirement that hospitals perform a minimum number of such operations annually in order to be allowed to do such surgery.

Military Police Investigates Possible Abuse by Dutch Soldiers in Afghanistan

At the request of the Ministry of Defense, the military police is undertaking an investigation of possible misbehavior by Dutch soldiers in Afghanistan. The alleged misbehavior was reported to have taken place at the beginning of 2008. The soldiers concerned are no longer serving in Afghanistan.
