Travel Companies Bring Dutch Tourists Back from Tunisia

The four Dutch tour operators who sent holiday-makers to Tunisia have brought them back after the horrific killing of 38 people by terrorists on a beach near the resort town of Sousse. Almost 300 people were evacuated on a joint flight.  This happened after the Dutch foreign ministry advised against all but essential travel to Tunisia.  All planned holidays to Tunisia have been cancelled.

Jihadists Recruit in Asylum Centers

The intelligence services have concrete indications that jihadists try to recruit members among asylum seekers in the Netherlands.  One suspect is being brought before the court in Tilburg.  The national coordinator for the fight against terrorism and for security says that it is likely that jihadists hide among the refugees who come to Europe from Syria and Libya.

American Artists Tried to Abuse the Name of Anne Frank

The American artists’ collective, Ghana Think Tank, has exposed a small building at an exhibition in Leiden.  It was initially called the “Anne Frank Mosque”.  After much protest, however, the name was changed to “Monument to the Dutch”.  Yet protests from Christians, Jews and Muslims continued.

The Hague: Riot Police Flee from Riots but then Return

Major riots have taken place in the Schilderswijk neighborhood of The Hague, which is one of the most problematic neighborhoods in all of the Netherlands. Earlier in the week, an Aruban national, Mitch Henriquez, died due to strangling by the police when he was arrested. The police were attacked with stones, bottles and fireworks. The officers subsequently fled, along with dozens of members of the riot police unit. Later on, the police returned and removed the rioters. During the riots, over a hundred people shouted anti-Semitic slogans.

Rector of Free University Ignores Extreme Incitement against Israel

The Free University in Amsterdam arranged a public meeting together with Students for Justice in Palestine (SRP).  This with the purpose of discussing a boycott of Israel.  One of the SRP inciters called Israel “a genocidal apartheid state”.  The president of the university board, Jaap de Winter, concluded the extreme hate-debate by saying that it was a beautiful debate, which fit the purposes of university perfectly.

Police Have Difficulties Dealing with Criminals Murdering Each Other

Hanneke Ekelmans, head of operations of the Amsterdam police, says that the police requires additional legal support in order to prevent criminals from murdering each other.  It should be possible, she says, that criminals who are the targets of violence be kept from the streets much like mentally disturbed people.  She added that not only are the police charged with the task of preventing murder but of ensuring a safe environment for all citizens.  In recent killings, bullets hit buildings and cars of innocent people.  Ekelmans concluded that, “it is very frustrating that we can do so little.”

Disclosure: In 1951, Jewish Children Kept Out of Classes Attended by Dutch Princesses

Historian Bart Wallet has found in the archives of the Dutch Jewish community (NIK) that in 1951, Jewish children were not permitted to attend classes where two of the then-Queen Juliana’s daughters went to school.  The Jewish community at the time checked the matter.  It turned out that the initiative wasn’t taken by the Queen, but by the school principal.  The Queen knew about it, however, and did not react.  Wallet explained that the Dutch environment after the war was so unpleasant and problematic for the Jewish community that its leaders decided not to go public with the scandal.
