Illegal Medical Tests Carried Out on Psychiatric Patients
In a psychiatric
institution in Heiloo, psychiatric patients who have heavy illnesses, and thus
cannot make decisions of their own free will, have been used illegally as
subjects for testing new medications.
The researcher had permission to do such tests solely on ambulant
patients who are able to make decisions for themselves. The caretaker who has brought the study out
to the public has been dismissed, and been told that if she discloses any
further information, she will be given a high fine. Law professor Frans van Wijman says that
deviating from research protocol is forbidden and that it may be considered a
crime, which can lead to prosecution.

Government Hiding Key Information on Plane Crash
On 17 July,
2014, a Malaysian plane was shot down over eastern Ukraine, and all its passengers
were killed. Among them were close to
200 Dutchmen. In answering parliamentary
questions, the government said that key information regarding the crash, including
government decisions made in the first three months after the crash, are a
state secret and will not be published. It was also discovered that a report on
a briefing in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, which took place three days before
the crash and which explained the dangerous situation in the country, was sent
to the Dutch Council of Investigations of Safety six months after the official
investigation of the crash had started. This
month, the briefing memo became public due to a leak.

Finally Admitted: Thirty Eight Years Ago, Minister of Justice Misled Parliament
Minister of Security and Justice Ard
van der Steur has told parliament that 38 years ago, his predecessor, Dries van
Agt misinformed them. Van Agt had said after a kidnapping of a Dutch train by
Moluccans that the Dutch marines who killed six kidnappers had not shot at kidnappers
who had a weapon but offered no resistance. A recent report shows that four out
of six kidnappers showed no resistance and were killed by the marines. A female
kidnapper did not even have a weapon. Several kidnappers were lying on
the ground when they were killed.
