Jewish Organization takes Dutch National Soccer Assocation to Court about Anti-Semitic Chants

The Jewish FJN organization has demanded that the Dutch National Soccer Association KNVB sends an instruction to referees how to behave when there are anti-Semitic chants in the Dutch soccer stadions. The KNVB has refused this. The KNVB says that the responsibility for what happens in the soccer stadiums is with the various clubs and that that system works well. FJN will now take the KNVB to court.

Dutch Soccer Fans chant Murderous anti-Semitic Songs

In a game at the Utrecht soccer stadium the local club played against Ajax from Amsterdam. Dozens of Utrecht fans chanted: “My father was in the commandos , my mother was in the SS, together they burned Jews, cause Jews burn the best” and “Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas.” Some Ajax fans call themselves Jews, though they have often been requested not to do so. The Utrecht soccer club is trying to identify the fans who chanted the hate texts.

Steep Increase in Reports of Anti-Semitic Incidents

The number of reported anti-Semitic incidents in 2014 in the Netherlands was the highest in five years. The Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI) reported 171 incidents in 2014 as against 100 in 2013.  These do not include incidents on social media outlets.  Incidents on social media are reported by another independent organization, MDI, which reported 238 anti-Semitic expressions, of which 188 are considered criminal under Dutch law. CIDI says that the reported incidents are a mere fraction of the total number of incidents.

Two Mayors Go Public about Public Influence of Criminals

Very few Dutch mayors dare to speak openly about the intimidation tactics used against the authorities by criminal elements.  One mayor mentioned that the problem is particularly pronounced in the province of northern Brabant.  These criminals come from trailer parks, the Turkish mafia, and motorcycle gangs and collaborate with each other.  Some of these criminals try, via intermediaries, to obtain positions in municipal councils.  The intimidation causes fear among politicians, bureaucrats and government officials.
