Minister: Sending Soldiers to Srebrenica was wrong from Outset

On this year’s Veterans Day Minister of Defense Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert said that nothing about the original assignment of the UN Dutchbat soldiers going to Srebrenica was evident. This, with one exception: it was clear that there was no mandate for a “genuine protection of the area or of the population. That created an illusion of security.” Hennis mentioned that while other countries refused to send soldiers to Srebrenica, the Netherlands did. She added that Dutchbat was sent there “without adequately being prepared for the specific circumstances, with insufficient means and capacities, a poor information position, all this to maintain peace where there was no peace. The assignment could not be carried out from the outset.”

This is due to a lack of workers. CNV Chairman Maurice Limmen said that as a result, employers in bad faith can do whatever they want. He specifically mentioned agriculture, construction, retail, transport, restaurants and hotels, manpower and cleaning services.

Police have no money for tasers

The Dutch police have no money to introduce tasers. It will however introduce an extendable truncheon. The police also claim that the introduction of these two new weapons at the same time is not desirable. A new police uniform was introduced in 2014. However, due to a mistake in its design, policemen fell over their own truncheons. One policewoman was wounded and took the police chiefs to court. The courts ruled in her favor and called the uniform “Unfit and thus causing danger.”

Many schools had planned to travel to Istanbul but almost all schools have rescheduled their trips. Also when abroad, school groups are to avoid public transport.

The police thinks that this reflects a changed model of drug cartels from Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia. The demand is apparently huge and the senders are willing to take high risks that the drug will be discovered.
