The annual report of the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) warns that there are radical Muslims in the Netherlands who seek for weapons. They are encouraged by Islamic State and Al Qaeda to undertake attacks in The Netherlands. The AIVD says that it is not always clear what these Muslims intend to do with these weapons. The Investigation Council for Security has stated that the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the Air Controller Management (LVNL) do not collaborate sufficiently as far as airport safety is concerned. The parties are not conscious of the risks this involves. The inspectorate of Education states in its annual report that the inequality among children increases. Children of parents with a higher education go to better schools than others. They will receive higher degrees than children with equal intelligence from less-educated parents. Inspector General Monique Vogelzang writes that it is shocking that it is increasingly determining for one’s education out of which family one comes.

The Inspectorate of Health doesn’t have sufficient confidence in the Board of the academic hospital UMC Utrecht. With 12,000 employees it is one of the most important medical centers in the Netherlands. The inspectorate has placed it under increased surveillance. Its inspectors will make unannounced visits to the hospital in the coming six months, and the Board will have to present monthly reports on ongoing hospital activities.

During her visit in Nuremberg the Dutch Queen Maxima wore a grey coat designed by Dutch-Danish designer Claes Iversen, with swastika-like symbols. In the afternoon, when the Queen visited the Palace of Justice in the town where the Nuremberg proceedings against leading Nazi criminals were held, she arrived coatless.

The remarks about problems with Moroccan soccer players in amateur clubs made by analyst Johan Derksen have raised several reactions at cabinet level. Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that anybody who misbehaves in a soccer club must be forcibly thrown out. Minister Edith Schipper of Public Health, Welfare and Sport said however that Derksen has identified a real problem and that one cannot deny that incidents in some clubs occur far more frequently than in others.

Professor Paul Verweel who teaches management and organization and is a former board member of the Dutch Royal Soccer Association (KNVB) said that 30 % of the incidents in discontinued games involve Turkish or Moroccan players. He said however that less than 1% of all games had to be halted by the umpire.

Johan Derksen, a well-known Dutch television soccer analyst, has said that some soccer clubs have been closed, as they had too many Moroccan players. Dutch players have been leaving because they do not want Moroccans as team-mates, giving as their reason that the Moroccans do not shower naked. He said the Dutch do not wish to discuss this publicly. He added that he himself had left the town of Gouda because so many Moroccans live there. His remarks led to major discussions on social media.

Amsterdam Airport and the adjacent Sheraton hotel were evacuated as armed police and the bomb squad patrolled the terminal, as some luggage had been determined to be suspicious. One person was arrested for several hours. It was later communicated that no dangerous materials had been found in the suspected person’s luggage.

Detailhandel Nederland, an organization which represents the interests of Dutch retailers, says that more and more girls steal cosmetics, food and expensive electronic products from shops. These are goods which can easily be put in a backpack or handbag. For the first time since registration started, the numbers of male and female shoplifters aged under 25 years are equal. A representative of the organization said that in this field, there is a faster emancipation for women than in any other area of criminal activity. The data are based on 25,000 complaints to the police.

In view of sexual misbehavior by asylum-seekers at the Aquacentrum swimming pool in the town of Den Helder, the management has introduced an obligatory ID entry requirement. Furthermore, the contact organization for asylum-seekers (COA) will see to it that one of its representatives is present in the swimming pool during the entire month of April. CCTV surveillance will also be increased, and the police will try to identify the wrongdoers.

The bus company Connexxion is extremely worried about the safety of drivers and passengers. Once again, stones were thrown at a bus, this time in Zaandam, and windows were shattered. The bus route has been changed for the meantime, and there will be no buses going through the neighborhood. The company spokesman said that unless action is taken by the municipality and the police, terrible things may happen in the future. He mentioned that the authorities focus mainly on aggression and violence in trains.

According to Pieter Van Ostaeyen, a Dutch expert on jihadists in Syria, fifty Syrian soldiers were killed in a suicide attack by a Dutch jihadi. The murderer was 24-year old Abu Mujahid al-Hulandi, also known as Anis Zerguit. According to Van Ostaeyen, Zerguit’s brother was killed at the end of 2014 in the battle for the Syrian town of Kobani.

The education inspectorate receives more and more complaints of sexual abuse in Dutch schools. In the school year 2014-2015 there were 112 complaints, as against 86 one year earlier. Most complaints came from high schools. More than half of the cases concern major sexual harassment including rape, assault and lechery. One in three complaints concern teachers or other school staff. The inspectorate calls on schools to establish behavioral codes for teachers, general school staffers, and pupils.

Family members of Elita Weah, who was murdered in the terror attack at Brussels Zaventem Airport may sue the airport for major negligence. Her brother, Rasco Weah, said “the Belgians have killed my sister. I’ll fight back.” The Belgian airport police said that the airport favored commercial interests over human lives, and that the Brussels Airport Company (BAC) neglected recommendations to improve security.

A Dutch advisory referendum voted down the EU’s free trade deal with the Ukraine. Only 38% of the voters supported the agreement. This was the first people’s referendum since a new law came into force which allowed 300,000 signatures to trigger a national non-binding vote. The Dutch government is greatly embarrassed by the voting as it is currently the president of the EU. It may have to decide not to ratify the association agreement.

The names of many former employees of the Dutch military intelligence and security service (MIVD) have been published on the internet. This was reported by Minister of Defense Jeanine Hennis. The names had originally appeared in the MIVD’s internal journal, which is widely distributed. A hotline has now been set up for former employees.

In a parliamentary debate on the Brussels terror attacks by Muslims, PVV party leader Geert Wilders said that Islam is not a religion like Christianity. He added that it is an extremist totalitarian ideology, its aim is not to integrate or to live together but to dominate society. He said that preferably the constitution should be changed and Islam should be forbidden. The representatives of several other parties disagreed with Wilders’ proposals.

Three drones nearly crashed into a number of aircraft as they were landing at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport. At least one of the drones came within 300 meters of a plane approaching a runway. The planes landed safely. Air traffic controllers ordered one of Schiphol’s runways closed. Youth Imam Yassin Elforkani, former spokesman of the CMO, the contact body liaising between Muslims and the authorities, says that Muslim terrorist networks in Amsterdam are ready to act. Tens of youngsters are so radicalized that it seems that nothing can hold them back. He added that many people in the neighborhoods know about it but keep silent. Elforkani expects that within one to one and a half years there will be a terror attack in Amsterdam.

Turkish President Tayyip Recep Erdogan has said that the Netherlands largely fail in the fight against terrorism. He added that these countries do not seem to have understood what jihadism stands for. Earlier Erdogan had reproached both countries to have been negligent with respect to the Turkish information about its expulsion of Ibrahim El Bakraoui, who blew himself up at Brussels Zaventem airport on March 22.
