Under Pressure, Mosque Delays Provocative Symposium

A Muslim organization Platform Bewust Moslim had planned a symposium in the Al-Amal mosque in Hilversum on “Ethnic Cleansing of the Palestinians”on May 4th. This is National Memorial Day for the dead of the Second World War. The largest number of dead in the Netherlands belonged to the Jewish community. There was much protest against this provocation by the organizers. The Freedom Party asked the Ministers of Interior and Social Affairs to close the mosque. The Mayor of Hilversum asked the organizers to delay the meeting. Under pressure, the organizers said that there was so much interest, that the mosque was too small to hold everyone and they delayed the symposium.

Amsterdam: Post-War Municipality Charged and Fined Jews for Missing Wartime Payments

Jews, including those who were in hiding during the war, or returned from concentration camps, were taxed and fined for long-lease payments during the Second World War when they returned. This often concerned Jews whose homes had been expropriated for use by Germans and Nazi collaborators. Documents related to this issue have come into the hands of students when they were digitalized before the originals were destroyed.
Amsterdam’s conduct in this issue was far more severe than other municipalities.

Minister of Justice Allegedly Misled Parliament

Minister Opstelten of Justice has misinformed Parliament about a whitewash deal which his Deputy Fred Teeven closed with the major drug dealer, Cees H. This was said by Piet Doedens, who was then the lawyer of the drug dealer. Opstelten said in Parliament that 1.25 million Guilders were paid to the drug dealer. Doedens says that the amount was 5 million. Teeven was Prosecutor at the time. Cees H. was one of the leaders of the infamous Octopus Network, which inter alia shipped several tons of hashish from Pakistan. After he was condemned, the authorities tried to put their hands on his money obtained from crime. When this failed, an arrangement was made – the state received 750,000 Guilders. The criminal got back 5 million. Also, Jan-Hein Kuijpers, the current lawyer of Cees H., confirms this deal. Doedens says that Cees H. also received back several buildings, a yacht, exclusive cars and jewels after the deal with the authorities.

Municipal Counselor: Moroccan Demonstrators are a ‘Ticking Bomb’

The group of Moroccans which demonstrated last week against the jeweler’s wife who killed two robbers is a ‘ticking bomb,’ said former Labor Party Municipal Counselor in Eindhoven, Mustapha Abbou. According to him, the group of demonstrators has no perspective in life and is in the order of magnitude of several tens to a hundred. Most have dropped out of school, but there are also youths among them who have studied in university.
At home, they are under pressure to work or go to school, but the Labor Exchange doesn’t even register them. He said that the municipality has to develop a plan and dialogue with the imams and not with the mosque leaders. They listen to the imams, who preach on a weekly basis.
