Prostitute Organization Opposes Amsterdam’s Deputy Mayor’s Plans

Amsterdam Deputy Mayor Lodewijk Asscher has proposed that the minimum age for prostitutes should be raised from 18 to 23 years old, and that prostitution between 4:00-8:00 am should be forbidden. “De Rode Draad” (The Red Thread), the organization which represents the interests of prostitutes, opposes this plan. Its spokeswoman Metje Blaak says this will create an underground circuit of prostitution. She also claims that this will reduce the income of the prostitutes, as some clients visit before they go to work.
